John Pat Patrick Page

John Patrick “Pat” Page, age 84, of Bloomington died Saturday afternoon (12/31) at the Bell Trace Health and Living Center in Bloomington. Born November 3, 1932 in Sullivan, Indiana, he was the son of Rein and O. Helen (Conklin) Page. Pat was an Indiana University alumnus and retired as an educator. The majority of his teaching career was with the Valley View School District in Will County, Illinois where he had worked as a school administrator as well. While serving as an administrator he was the author of the “45/15” school attendance plan in Will County that implemented year-round school attendance for the entire school district. This plan soon became popular for other school corporations nationwide and Pat spent much time traveling across the United States informing school systems that would eventually implement this plan for their systems. He later taught at the Romeoville High School where he was a grant writer and one of his grants was responsible for the high school receiving money for the start of a fully operational television station in which he was also instrumental in providing the knowledge to get the station up and running. He acquired a total of 35 years as a classroom instructor prior to retirement. While in Illinois Pat was active with the Boy Scouts as an assistant troop leader in Joliet. Since moving to Bloomington, Pat became a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Bloomington Lions Club and the Monroe County Retired Teachers Association. He was a former member of the Bloomington Newcomers. Pat is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Page, of Bloomington, one daughter, Rebecca Burton, of Portland, Oregon, one son, Benjamin (Jamie)Page, of Schaumburg, Illinois; five siblings, Rose Marie Page, of Seal Beach, California, William (Jeannette) Page, of Oswego, Illinois, Adelia (Dr. Charles) Nichols, of Huntington Beach, California, Paul Page, of Morris, Illinois and Thomas Page, of St. Albans, New York and three grandchildren, Harlow Page, Gabrielle Willoughby and Cellie Burton. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Anita (Spears) Page in 2004, one brother Robert Page and one sister, Rita Berkey. There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Bloomington. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
