Joseph Samuel Burris

Joseph Samuel Burris passed away peacefully in Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown, Indiana on October 17, 2019. He was the son of Frank and Anna (Zikes) Burris born on May 24, 1925 in Bloomington, IN. Joe was a WWII US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Pasadena. After the service, he married Sarah K. Cloyd. She preceded him in death in 1967. He then married Viola Lawrence. She preceded him in death in 1996. Joe then married Helen Mullis and she survives. Joe is survived by his two daughters; Katherine (husband Tommy) Gilbert of Longview, WA and Virginia “Ginger” (Steve) Axsom of Norman, IN and one son; Joseph D. Burris of Wasilla, AK. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children; Frank M. Burris and John Timothy Burris, one brother and three sisters. Visitation for Joe will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401. Pastor Don Hawkins will officiate the service. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens, Bloomington. The Monroe County Honor Guard along with the US Navy will perform military honors.
