

Kitty Lee Brown Burkhart, 94, of Bloomington passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Hearthstone Health Campus. Born February 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Hubert A. and Carol Pleasants Brown and wife of the late Wayne Burkhart. She was a 1942 graduate of Bloomington High School and attended Indiana University.
Survivors include her daughter, Liza Burkhart, of Dallas, Texas; her grandsons, Geoff and John Burkhart, and their mother, Beverly Scott Burkhart, her cousins, Jackie Lu Sturgeon of Bloomington, IN and Catherine Hrycak of Culver, Indiana as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son, Garrett Burkhart.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church; The Argonaut Club; Bloomington Restorations, Inc.; Conversation Club; Daughters of the American Revolution; Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana; Theta Chapter, Delta Gamma Fraternity; Monroe County Historical Society, Inc.; Kappa Kappa Kappa, Inc., Gamma Associate Chapter; PEO Sisterhood, Chapter BQ; Society of Indiana Pioneers; The Unique Club and Women’s Club.
Prior to her retirement from Indiana University in 1995, she was an advisor for international students for 26 years. Community activities include service as a volunteer at the Monroe County History Center and as a docent at the Andrew H. Wylie House Museum. Her home, which she inherited from her parents, was built in 1828 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held at Noon, on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Remembrances may be made in her name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
