Lillian will be remembered as generous, kind, a loving wife and mother, and an independent woman.
Lillian grew up in Appalachia, went to business school and moved to the Washington D.C. area where she met her future husband while working for the Bacteriology Department at the University of Maryland. She volunteered throughout her life, whether it was for the local Red Cross, UNICEF, elementary school library, or other efforts in the community or the university. She established the Walter Konetzka Fellowship to continue her late husband’s legacy. Lillian stood up for and worked throughout her life for what she believed in. She had impeccable taste. She loved opera. She was a trooper and shuttled her children to many piano lessons, Little League games, scout meetings, and all the other activities that mothers perform out of love. Lillian was proud of her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Prof. Walter Konetzka, her parents Arvel and Mary Minick, her brother James Minick, sister Mary Margaret Shockey, and her daughter-in-law Karyn Konetzka. She is survived by her sisters Cecelia Sandifer, Virginia Hostetler, Judith Hummel, and Rose Marie Hutzell and by her four children, Walter (Dawn) Konetzka, Jr., Elizabeth (Dennis) Lindsey, Kevin (Jennifer Keen) Konetzka, and Michael (Tamara) Konetzka, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will have a private ceremony.
