
Margaret M. Widen, 86 of Bloomington, IN passed away Monday May 26, 2014, surrounded by family at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, Bloomington, IN. Born in Hartford, CT to Paul W. and Marian F. McCoy. Margaret (Maggie) spent the first half of her life in West Hartford and Simsbury, CT, retirement with husband Sven E. Widen in Wilmington, NC, and senior years with her family in Bloomington, IN.
Maggie was a loving mother, doting grandmother, and actively engaged great grandmother. She was an avid bridge player, a sports enthusiast, and was known for her baked goods and happy and friendly personality.
She was a tireless volunteer at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and welcoming “Ambassador” at Wilmington International Airport, Wilmington, NC. In January 2002 she received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President George Bush’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in recognition of her many thousands of hours of dedicated volunteerism.
Proceeded in death by; her parents, her brother, Robert McCoy, and husband of 49 years, Sven E. Widen.
Surviving; sister, Phyllis Russell of Rocky Hill, CT; son, S. Craig Widen & wife Marci (Maggie’s other daughter) of Bloomington, IN; two daughters Karen Lee Denoto & husband Bob of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Kimberly W. Loomis & husband Ron of Spring Hill, FL; and grandchildren, their spouses, and great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of Maggie’s life will be held in conjunction with what would have been her 87th birthday.
AND we know that if we’re fortunate enough to follow her to heaven we will be greeted with “Hey there, hi there, ho there, how happy can we be” while we look for her freshly baked “congo bars. “
