

The Lord saw that she had done what she could, when she could and for as long as she could (Mark 14:8) AND He decided that she needed a rest and He took her home.
Marie was born on June 25, 1920 in Monroe County to John L. and Rebecca (Hays) Hillenberg. She graduated from Houston High School in 1938. Marie was employed by the former RCA in Bloomington, and was housekeeper to several prominent business people in Bloomington for 40 years before retiring. She had a full life and experienced amazing changes in nearly a century of living. She was truly blessed.
She married Doyle W. Fleetwood on April 8, 1938. They were married for 65 years before his death on July 6, 2003.
Marie served the Lord beginning as a young child until her death. Her mother would take Marie and her siblings to church, walking 2 ½ to 3 miles to attend services. She was devoted to teaching Sunday School to the 4 and 5 year olds and taught for 55 years before retiring from teaching. She was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Colleen Elkins and Scott, of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Greg (wife Rebecca) Elkins, of New Palestine, IN and Stephanie (husband Kevin) Lee, of Bloomington; two great-grandsons, Garrett Elkins and Kory Lee and an expected great-granddaughter to be born in March. She was a loving and proud Mamaw to Greg and Stephanie and great-Mamaw to Garrett and Kory. One sister survives, Ruby Fleetwood, of Hope, IN. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle, her parents, four sisters, Helen Stewart, Vearl Deckard, Florence Ross and Irene Deckard and by two brothers, Chester and Lester Hillenberg.
The family would like to extend grateful thanks to Dr. Lori Thompson, Dr. John Strobel and Rachel O’Connor, N.P. for their years of dedicated and expert care of Marie, and most recently the staff at Golden Living Center.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. with Rev. Fred Stanger and Rev. Robert Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
