

Marty Jay Phillips, age 47, of Heltonville, died Monday afternoon at his residence with his loving wife, children, mother, twin sister and other family members at his side. Born April 8, 1963 in Bedford, he was the son of Carlis and Doris (Flynn) Phillips. He had worked at Bloomington Hospital where he was a maintenance technician for 20 years prior to his illness. He had formerly worked at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford, six years in the cafeteria and two years in the laundry. He liked to go Coon hunting and do woodworking projects. He was a 1981 graduate of Bedford-North Lawrence High School. Marty was a former member of the F.F.A. in Lawrence County and a volunteer firefighter for the Perry Township Fire Dept. in Springville. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Fay (Prince) Phillips; of Heltonville, whom he married Sept. 6, 1985; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Matt Hawkins, of Heltonville; one son, Matthew Phillips, at home; his mother, Doris Harris, of Springville; twin sister, Marsha Kay Hettle, of Springville; three grandchildren, Kyeirah Phillips, Kaden Phillips and Krimsin Strong and lots of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Carla Hettle. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, Michael Duane Phillips, paternal grandparents, Willie and Nancy Phillips and maternal grandparents, Bennie and Marie Flynn.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Day Funeral Home with Pastors Duane Brown, Uncle Bob Phillips, Rodney Reynolds, Harold Godsey and Marty Speer officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 2-8 P.M. and on Friday from 12 noon until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Hospice of Bloomington Hospital.
