Nancy Carll Page died at the age of 69 in Bloomington, Indiana, on Monday, November 22, 2021, at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Visitation will be at Day and Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home on November 27, 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., and the service will begin at 4:00 p.m.
Nancy was born in Waco, Texas, on June 23, 1952, to L.H. and Helen Carll. Her childhood home, known as “the Fort”, was a central gathering place for family. Growing up she enjoyed spending time with her cousins, fishing with her father, and playing with her cat Maltus. She loved cats and always had cats throughout her life. She looked up to her older sister, Carol, which made her work hard at school and strive to be a straight-A student. She started her B.A. in Spanish at UT Austin where she met her husband, Frank. They were married August 24, 1972 and one year later, they moved to Champagne-Urbana Illinois where Frank began his PhD in economics and Nancy completed her B.A. and went on to get her Master of Social Work at the University of Illinois. While there, she collaborated with close friend and campus minister, Jim Holiman, to open a local food pantry. After graduating, she worked as a hospice social worker until she retired in 2004 to take care of her mother who suffered a stroke. Nancy spent countless hours gardening and curating the most beautiful yard wherever she and her family were living, was an active member of the local Garden Club, and won Yard of the Month for her house in Bloomington. She was a fierce supporter of the Democratic Party, and often donated her time, funds, and energy to those candidates and causes that aligned with her values of empathy, service, and care for all.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and L.H. Carll, and by her sister, Carol Carll Schulte.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Frank Page; her oldest daughter and son-in-law, Maggie and Micah Abrams; her younger daughter and daughter-in-law, Laura and Savannah Page; her brother and his spouse, Lloyd Carll and Connie Preslar Carll; her grandsons, Ira and Avi Abrams; and by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nancy was a loving wife and mother. She was well-known for her homestyle cooking, and could often be found preparing food for family, friends, and anyone who might be in need of a comforting meal. Whether in service of her children, her husband, her mother, her patients, or her friends, Nancy dedicated her life to providing care to those around her. Her compassionate, thoughtful, sharp, humorous, and steady presence could always be felt, and will forever be missed.
