Nancy T. Saunders, 78, of Bloomington, died at her home on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012.

Born September 21, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, Nancy was the daughter of John J. Trainor and Catherine Woiwode Trainor. She married Phillip Saunders on June 16, 1956, and their marriage was blessed with five children and ten grandchildren.

A graduate of Bethel Park (PA) High School, Nancy pursued her college education on an intermittent, part time basis while working more than full time as an exceptionally loving wife, mother, and homemaker for an active and growing family. Her persistence was rewarded with a Batchelor of General Studies degree from Indiana University in 1985.

In addition to being the organizer and Commander In Chief of the annual family vacation at Olgebay Park in Wheeling, WV, Nancy was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was an exceptionally warm and caring person who volunteered in a wide variety of church and community activities. She was a member of the Phoebe Circle of the United Methodist Women; a past member and leader of the Bible Study Fellowship; an honorary active member of the Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority; a long time driver for Meals on Wheels; a volunteer in the Bloomington Hospital Gift Shop for over 25 years; a member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary; and a member of the Camerata Orchestra Guild. She was also very proud to be a member of the Almost Awesome Tennis Group.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband of over 56 years, her mother in law Thelma Saunders Marker of Bloomington, two sisters Ann Arthurs of New Freedom, PA, Marcie Berk (husband Mark) of Wallingford, PA, one brother Jack Trainor (wife Kathy) of Pensacola, FL, sister in law Anne Bloxom (husband Bruce) of Carmel, CA, her children Kathleen McIntire of Alphareta, GA, Kevin Saunders (wife Marian) of Roswell, GA, Keith Saunders (wife Ann) of Carmel, IN, Kent Saunders (wife Chrissie) of Anderson, IN, Kristine Beyer of Plainfield, IN, and her grandchildren Rachel McIntire, Eileen McIntire, Amy Saunders, Laura Saunders, Kyle Saunders, Reed Saunders, Adam Saunders, Kelcey Saunders, Kendra Saunders, and Khloe Saunders.

A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 27, with an additional opportunity for visitation one hour prior to the service.

Keith, there is nothing that can be said to ease the pain and lessen the loss of your mother. However, now she will always with you, just over your shoulder. Mothers never leave us, just turn around and feel her presence. Our thoughts are with you and your entire family.

We are very sorry to learn of Aunt Nancy's passing, but so thankful to know she died peacefully with her family at her side. We recall several summer visits with our cousins while growing up, and know how close our dad, Jack, is to Nancy and Uncle Phil after hearing many stories of them growing up and attending high school in Pittsburgh. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Uncle Phil and our Saunders cousins.

Saunders family,
Knowing Nancy was a privilege and when I think of her the word 'Mother' always comes to mind. She not only displayed exemplary mothering skills to her family but also to everyone she met. I remember her as always putting other people first and herself down somewhere lower on the list. Having Keith as a part of our family and watching his very special parenting skills means that her legacy lives on. The entire Hunt family will miss her dearly.
