Obituary of Odie Mae Moore
Odie Mae Moore, age 84, of Bloomington died Friday afternoon (08/02/2019) at Garden Villa in Bloomington. Born October 17, 1934 in Schalter, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Otis Lee and Melzina (Thomas) Hoskins. Educated in Memphis, she graduated high school in 1953. Odie shortly thereafter moved to Chicago, Illinois where she married her husband, Solomon Moore on November 12, 1954. Odie received Christ at an early age, serving in many capacities throughout the church in many capacities. She especially enjoyed serving as a soloist for many years and singing praises to our God. Odie became a member of Second Grace United Methodist Church in Detroit, Michigan in the late 1980’s under the leadership of Pastor A. Cutting. She later was under the leadership of Dr. E. Bailey and at present with Rev. Dr. Charles Boayne, Jr. Odie was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Pastor-Parish committee. Odie loved God, her fellowman and becoming cherished as the matriarch of her family. Odie worked for Michigan Bell Telephone as a line assigner. She retired in 1993 after 20 years of service. Odie is survived by her two daughters, Mevelyn Hobson, of Southfield, Michigan and Sheila Blair, of Bloomington; her son, George Blair, of Bloomington, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Odie was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Lee Hoskins and Melzina Hoskins Peterson, her beloved husband, four children, Melzina Blair, Otis Lee Blair, Terry Hoskins and Benny Ray Jackson, one grandson, Elton Hobson, Jr., her sister, Beulah Blair and brother, Carl Peterson. The funeral service will be at 6:00 p.m. Saturday (09/10) at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the family to help with the funeral expenses.
