Obituary of Phillip Keith Pate
Phillip Keith Pate, Sr., 81 of Bloomington died Tuesday November 4, 2014 as the result of an automobile accident in Hope, Arkansas. He was born June 16, 1933 in Bloomington, IN to Willie Edward Pate and Edith Marie Elliot Pate. He was retired from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. Survivors include a son, Phillip Pate, Jr. and his wife Tammy of Bloomington; two daughters, Janice Martin and her husband Robert of Bradenton, Florida and Alice Herrington and her husband Gary Uhlig of Bradenton, Florida; a step son, Charles “Chuck” Trotter and his wife Jean of Smithville; a step daughter Cheryl Mason and her husband Tom of Camby, IN; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a brother Austin Pate of Bloomington, Indiana and Donald Pate and his wife Val of Richmond, Virginia; a sister, Lois Byrd of Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette “Suzie” Henry Pate; his parents; a daughter, Joyce Marie; two sisters, Francis Pate and Virginia Lee Pate who both died in childhood and one brother, James Edward Pate. He also died along with another brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Donna Pate, a sister, Connie Richards and friend and companion, Gloria Bryant. Phillip was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War; He was employed for 13 years with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and 21 years with Griffith Motor Express. He was a member of the American Legion, Burton Woolery Post 18, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 604 and the Free and Accepted Masons, Monroe Lodge 22. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 1:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third St with Dr. James Hicks and Reverend Al Dicer officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Monroe County Honor Guard. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
