

Robert R. Jeffers, age 87, of Bloomington, died Friday afternoon at the Golden Living Center. Born May 31, 1928 in Lyons, Indiana, he was the son of Reed E. and Roxie Estella (Youngblood) Jeffers. He worked as a farmer and a construction worker, but retired as a manager for Speedway Oil Company. He served our country during the Korean War for 3 ½ years in the U.S. Air Force. He loved storytelling and working with people of all ages, serving as a Cub Master in Scouting, the Monroe Co. 4-H swine club, which he helped start, senior citizens and people when they were “down and out”. He had been active in various churches, including Clear Creek Christian Church and was a member of Woodhaven Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving family, his two sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Cindy Jeffers and Greg Jeffers, all of Bloomington; one granddaughter, Morgan Nicole Jeffers, of Bloomington; one sister and brother-in-law, Marietta “Joan” and Kenny Self, of Bloomington and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Helen May (Nicholson) Jeffers, one infant son, Randall Jeffers, one grandson, Clayton Reed Jeffers, two brothers, Frank Arthur Jeffers and George E. Jeffers and one sister, Betty L. Clute.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St with Pastor Steve Baker officiating. Cremation rites will follow the funeral service. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m.
