

Robert L. Murphy, age 76, of Bloomington, died Thursday at his residence. Born November 3, 1934 in Kentland, he was the son of Harry and Helen (Duttenhaver) Murphy. He graduated from Anderson High School and retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors after 35 years in the engineering, drafting and design area. He had his own income tax service for several years in Anderson. He taught various engineering related subjects for IVY Tech. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anderson. He also served as Worshipful Master of Mt. Moriah Lodge #77 in 1965 and as secretary in 1968. He was a member of Scottish Rite Valley in Indianapolis. He was a plural member of Monroe Lodge #22 in Bloomington, past patron of Sulphur Springs Chapter of O.E.S. and member of Anderson chapter #154.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann (Painter) Murphy, whom he married on September 22, 1956; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Harry Tinsley, of Bloomington; son, Patrick Murphy, of Bloomington; step-grandson, Adam Tinsley; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Murphy, of Anderson, Freida Painter, of New Castle, Ann Rita Frame and her husband, Omer, of Farmland, and Sue Anne Painter and her husband, Hubert, of Sulphur Springs, several special nieces and nephews; friends, Odie, Maddie and Dracilla; aunt, Cora Lehe, of Brownsburg as well as several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harry S. Murphy, Jr. and one brother-in-law, Roger Painter.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Monday at Day Funeral Home in Bloomington. Friends may visit the family from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. There will be a reception in the Day Reception Center following the service on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be given to I.U. Health, Bloomington Hospice or to the charity of one’s choice.
