Pastor Donald Griffin, Sr.

Long before I started pastoring Rev. Thornton’s home church in Bedford, In, he and I had crossed paths in Bloomington, In. I only knew him as a strong and faith filled Christian brother who cared about his family and the salvation of lost souls. He never backed down from his calling to preach, evangelize, and pastor God’s people. To the family he so dearly loved, I know he would want you to “keep fighting the good fight of faith” and to never give up and never give in. Sister Griffin and I send our deepest sympathy for your unexpected loss. Grace and peace from God the father and HIS Son Jesus the Christ.

I had not seen Gilbert for many years, but when my daughter Terri was little he was our next door neighbor on 11th St. in Bedford and he remained our friend ever since. Also, My Jeffries relatives, including my dad all came from Horse Cave (Hart Co.) Ky so we felt a kinship with his family also. My sister Janna and I ran into him by chance one July 4 at a gas station in Indy and he was the same as he always had been, kind, funny and cheerful, he always lifted our spirits. My daughter Terri was also friends with his son, George Jr.
My heart goes out to the Thornton & Brown Families and you are all in my prayers. Love & Hugs, Joyce M. Jeffries

My dad was the most Amazing person that I have ever met. I thank God for blessing our family with him. He was the same way behind closed doors as he was out in public. He had the best sense of humor, loved to talk to people, smiled at everyone, and never met a stranger. He loved God with all his heart, his family, and his friends. He also was devoted to his job. He loved the IU fans. Again God thank you for blessing us with him ❤️
