

Russell Lester Shields, Jr., age 89, of Solsberry, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025. He was born on February 26, 1935, in Brown County, Indiana, to the late Russell Lester Shields, Sr. and Hilda Alice (Hendricks) Shields. He was preceded in death by his brother Rex and leaves behind his brother Larry (PeeWee) Shields.
Russell shared a deep, enduring love with his wife, Reva Nell (Love) Shields, with whom he celebrated 72 years of marriage on New Year’s Eve 2025.
Together, they raised three children: Joe Bill (Celeste) Shields, Jay Shields, and Tammy Shields. He was a proud grandfather of six, great-grandfather to twelve, and great-great-grandfather to two, each of whom he cherished deeply.
Known for his lively spirit, Russell, brought joy to everyone around him. He had quite the mischievous grin and eyes that were always filled with excitement. He was always quick with a joke or a prank. He often said that he never had a bad day and anyone who knew him would agree. His unwavering optimism and humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In his free time, Russell would be found outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He also enjoyed being in his wood shop creating beautiful pieces to gift to his family.
Russell was a devoted servant of God, dedicating countless hours to reading, studying, meditating on, and teaching God’s Word. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he touched many with his passion for sharing the Gospel.
Professionally, Russell was an entrepreneur. He started by selling Baron wood stoves and doing bodywork in his garage. He then transitioned his business to R&R Tire Shop, a thriving local business. He took pride in his work and built lasting friendships with customers.
Russell’s joyful spirit and kindness will be greatly missed, but his legacy of service, laughter, and faith will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
There will be no services at this time. The family plans to have a celebration of life to celebrate his “90th birthday” as this is something he was very excited about. Details will be released by family soon.
