
Shirley Jane Chastain, age 91, of Bloomington, formerly of Lawrence County, passed away, Friday evening, December 20, 2024 at Gentry Park Senior Living in Bloomington. Born November 19, 1933 in Mitchell, Indiana, she was the daughter of Stanley and Calvin Lucille (Hollers) Smith. Shirley worked for the Central Foundry in Bedford for over 26 years before retiring where she was a devoted member of the U.A.W. She was a hard worker and had pride in the Victorian style home she owned for many years in Mitchell. She enjoyed going to vintage and second-hand stores to shop for bargains and attending Bible studies. She also had a soft heart for animals having rescued her two dogs that she formerly owned, Cosmo and Carman. She formerly attended the Bride of Christ Church in Mitchell before moving to Bloomington.
Shirley is survived by her loving daughter, Judy Burton, of Bloomington, her beloved grandson, Desi Burton, great-granddaughter, Akasha Burton and one sister, Sherry Collins, of Orleans, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Dan Burton, in 2017, one sister, Wanda Little, one grandson, Courtney Burton and her brother-in-law for approximately 64 years, Don Little, of Camden, Tennessee, formerly of Mitchell who passed on the same day she did.
There will be no services or visitation. The family has chosen to do a private family graveside service in early spring.
