

Virginia Helen Hacker, age 88, of Bloomington, died Monday morning at Garden Villa Nursing Home in Bloomington. Born April 28, 1924, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Bertha (Hyde) Shields. She was a hairstylist for 30 years and a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the American Business Women’s Association and the Bloomington Township Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry and Dee Hacker of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Richard Hacker of Solsberry and David and Debbie Hacker of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Katie, Laura, Angela, Tom, Tabitha, Lavonne, Tonya and John; four step-grandchildren, Sherry, Larry, Gilbert and Dennis; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Hacker, whom she married on January 21, 1955; three brothers, Earl Shields, Clarence Shields and Bennie Shields; and three sisters, Jenny Shields, Beatrice Dover and Evelyn Branham.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Day Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Helton officiating. Burial will follow in Payne Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 11a.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to the family c/o Day Funeral Home.
