William Fredrick Deckard, Sr, age 84, of Bloomington, passed away Friday morning, June 7, 2024 at the Cedar Creek Assisted Living in Bloomington. Born February 9, 1940 in Bloomington, Indiana, he was the son of Charles Fredrick and Betty (Stewart) Deckard. William served for 35+ years in the U.S. Army after joining in 1957. He was an avid knife and gun collector and was a member of the Apostolic Bible Church for many years.
William is survived by his two sons, John (Teresa) Deckard, of Unionville and William (Shannen) Deckard, Jr., of Bloomington, one sister, Margaret Ann Hoff, of Louisiana, one brother, Mike Deckard, of Martinsville; seven grandchildren, Jill, Jennifer, Allison, Rachel, Sarah, Seth and Hope; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Brady, Jackson, Waylon, and Karis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Erma Coreen (Sims) Deckard on April 12, 2022.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 11at 12:00 noon at Garrison Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Duane Coffman officiating. The Monroe Honor Guard will be providing military graveside rites.
