William H. Moran, 89, of Bloomington, died at his residence Wednesday, December 14. Born January 15, 1922 in Morgan County, In., he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Elsie (Flake) Moran.
William Moran retired as Chief Draftsman after 41 years of service to the Indiana Geological Survey at I.U. ,He was an accomplished map and publication designer, standardizing the look of publications used by the geologic industry. In 1987, Mr. Moran received the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash Award, an honor bestowed by the Governor of Indiaba to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or the governor.
He was an avid golfer, reader and traveler who especially enjoyed the history and lore of Indiana.
Those left to morn his death include his wife, Betty; 2 daughters, Janice Dagley of Stevenson Ranch, California and Patricia Stone of Thousand Oaks, California; 1 son, Kevin Moran of Bloomington; 3 Grandchildren, Petrina Compton, Jessica Dagley and Siena Dagley; 2 great- grandchildren, 2 Zachary Compton and Lauren Compton.
William was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Herb Moran, Carl Moran, Loren Moran, and Lloyd Moran; 3 sisters, Joan Zorman, Dorothy Walls and Ruth Williams.
The family will receive friends at Day Funeral Home on Monday 5-8 PM, funeral services will be private.
