Odell served in the United States Navy and later worked as a custodian at Indiana University until his retirement. Through years of steady work and perseverance, he built a life defined by reliability, endurance, and a deep sense of responsibility to those who depended on him.
On March 17, 1964, Winfred married the love of his life, Willma Jean. Their marriage reflected a lasting devotion and loyalty that remained at the center of his life and family.
Odell is survived by his sons, James “Mike” Ayres (Debra), Rick Ayres (Pam), and Kevin Puett; his daughter, Teresa Lone (Jim); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Bud Puett, Delbert Puett, Kenneth Puett; and sisters, Martha Lou Parks, Betty Jane Rogers and Barbara Sater.
Known as a “Jack of all Trades” and the “MacGyver” of the family, Winfred was someone others could count on—resourceful in the moment, steadfast in the long run, and quietly determined to find a way through whatever needed doing. His legacy lives on in the family who loved him and the example he set through a lifetime of faithful dedication.
There will be no services at this time, but a Celebration of Life will be held on a later date.
