Deanie Myers Leonard

Deanie Myers Leonard, age 74, passed away on August 26 in Salem, Massachusetts. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Dr. Leonard was a graduate of Wellesley High School, Class of 1969, received a BA from Wells College (Aurora, NY) Class of 1973, earned an MBA from Simmons College (Boston, MA) in 1979, and was conferred the Doctor of Philosophy by The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD) in 2002.

Her work life spanned careers in college textbook publishing at Houghton Mifflin; multinational banking at Bank of Boston and two European banks; and public health research, analysis, and management at the State of Maryland.

Between banks, she took a year’s hiatus, circling the globe, including travels to Tahiti, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Nepal, India, East Africa (on safari), Egypt, and Western Europe. Upon returning to the States, she made a career shift to Not-for-Profit after completing a PhD program at Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health. She spent the remaining years of her public health career in various roles, managing and analyzing public health data for the State of Maryland’s Medicaid analysis section.

Dr. Leonard was the daughter of Henrietta Myers Leonard and Arthur Dean Leonard. Dr. Leonard is survived by two sisters, Laura Janet Leonard of Plymouth, MA and Mary Leonard-Wilson and her husband Richard, of Calistoga, CA, and by one brother, Stuart Charles Leonard and his wife Janice, of Pembroke, MA. Dr. Leonard is also survived by cousins Deborah Emerson Pinkham, of Barrington, RI, and Martha Emerson Wells, of Sherborn, MA, along with other cousins, nieces and nephews.
