Joel Raffa

He was the son of the late Achille “Henry” and Lillian (Ruzzo) Raffa.

Joel is survived by his beloved sister, Cecilly DiStefano, and Richard Pinabell of Florida. He is also survived by his nephew, Frank DiStefano and his wife, Kristin, of Wakefield, Frank’s sons, Matthew and Mitchell DiStefano of Malden, his niece, Nadine Peroni of Melrose, and her daughters, Alexa and Taeya Peroni of the North End.

He continued his education at Northeastern University, where he studied electrical technology before beginning what would become a long and accomplished career in engineering. Joel went on to earn his certification as a Professional Engineer.

Joel dedicated more than four decades to the field of electrical engineering. After beginning his career in the Boston area, he made South Florida his home, where he lived and worked for the last 30 years of his life. He spent much of his career with BR+A Consulting Engineers before joining Osborn Engineering, where he served for the past six years as Director of Healthcare Development.

While Joel took great pride in his profession and accomplishments, perhaps even more meaningful were the relationships he formed along the way. He remained close to a core group of engineers with whom he worked for nearly three decades. Over the years, those colleagues became much more than coworkers—they became family.

Outside of work, Joel was simply fun to be around. He had a wonderful sense of humor, always seemed to have a smile on his face, and usually had a good story to tell. He appreciated the finer things in life, especially good wine, good food, and, most importantly, good company. Always stylish and impeccably dressed, Joel had a way of making an impression wherever he went.

Joel also had a love of travel. He especially enjoyed visiting Italy and other European countries with his sister and family, creating memories together that they would treasure for years to come. Joel will be remembered for his warmth, humor, unmistakable style, and his ability to enjoy life and the people around him. Whether sharing a meal, enjoying a glass of wine, or telling one of his stories, Joel brought a smile and a presence that will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Family and friends are invited to attend Joel’s visitation on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. in J.S. Waterman Langone Chapel, 580 Commercial Street, Boston. Complimentary Valet Attendants at the Front Door.

A Morning visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 8:30 – 9:30 am in J.S Waterman Langone Chapel, 580 Commercial Street.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. In St. Leonard Church, 320 Hanover Street, Boston. To join the procession to the church, please arrive at the funeral home by 9 am.

Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Elm Street, Everett.
