Lt. Col. Douglas Lee Fullington passed away on October 22, 2019, in Bothell, WA, soon after celebrating his 98th birthday. He was born in Merrillan, WI, but has been a resident of Washington State for over 7 decades. He was drafted into the army soon after graduating from high school and served in WWII. During his WWII service, he was selected for officer training, completed the course, and subsequently served his country during several engagements during his 20 years of military service in active reserve.
He strongly believed in education and obtained a pre-law degree and pre-med degree, with the intention of fully completing his medical schooling before he was offered a position he couldn’t refuse working for an insurance company handling medical-practice claims. After retiring as a Claims Manager, his retirement only lasted two weeks when he accepted a position as Deputy Insurance Commissioner of Eastern Washington which he enjoyed until he retired for a second time.
In addition to his service to our country, and his strong role model for education and hard work, he was a devoted husband for 67 years to his wife, Lois Fullington. Lt Col. Fullington was preceded in death by Lois, and his son, Douglas E. Fullington. He is survived by his son and daughter- in-law, Edward & Lynne Fullington (Des Moines, WA), daughter and son-in-law Jean & Roger Sorensen (Lincoln, NB), and daughter Mari Laundroche (Kenmore, WA). He was a man among men, and left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
