She was born on October 5, 1930 in Aberdeen WA to Vernon and Mary (Dudley) Latimer. She grew up in Seattle, graduating from Queen Anne High in 1948. She attended the University of Washington where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and W-Key Honorary. Betty was predeceased in 2002 by her husband Albert L. McCoy. Betty and Al met at the UW and were happily married for 50 years. They had two children and lived in El Paso TX, Seattle, Kennewick, Lake Forest Park, Spokane and Anchorage AK before settling in Kirkland in 1990.
Betty involved herself in each place she lived. In 1998 she was honored by the Seattle Alumni Chapter of Theta for her years of charitable volunteering. She also loved gardening, UW football games, lunch with friends and watching her grandchildren’s sport competitions when they were younger. A source of good times for friends and family was the summer home on Lake Coeur d’Alene in Idaho.
She descended from Washington pioneers on both sides. Her great-grandfather William Latimer and grandparents Norval and Margaret Latimer were early day Seattleites. Her great-grandmother Mary Benn Crammatte and grandparents L.P. and Elizabeth Dudley were early residents of Aberdeen WA.
She is survived by her children Dr. Patrick McCoy (Chrissy) of Redmond and Mary McCoy Hendrickson (Mark) of Bellevue, grandchildren Dan McCoy (Tina), Carlie Bongers (Kyle), Steve Hendrickson, David Hendrickson (Lori), and great-grandchildren Cash and Milo Bongers and Heidi Hendrickson.
She was predeceased by her brother Gordon Latimer of Bellingham
