Guadalupe Carez was born April 5th 1935 in Mexico city. She had two sisters Lucy and Lola, she was the eldest of the three. Her early life consisted of helping the family out around the house, especially when it came to helping her mother with house chores. Lupe also liked to beat to the tune of her own drum, sneaking out at night to go dancing with boys and even being so bold as to slap a horse in the rear end in her youth, only to cheat death by inches and get kicked square in the stomach. In her 20s Lupe moved from Mexico to the United States bringing her son Luis with her. She got a job at grandma‘s cookies working on the line a job in which she absolutely loved and thanked everything and everyone from the government to God, but most importantly that they served fresh hot coffee to their employees. while working at grandma’s cookies and raising her son, they lived with Lupe‘s aunts, Mary and Margaret. They lived with them for a few years until Lupe met her second husband, Harry. Even though they were separated by around 30 years they fell for each other immediately! After getting married, Lupe got her beautician‘s license and started styling hair her dream job. Eventually, Harry would incorporate items and objects from the salon and install them in the house so that she could both work from home and spend time with her family and her garden. Lupe would cut hair for her friends and neighbors for many years at the house. while married to Harry, the two loved to dance and would frequently go dancing around the state, if not venture all the way to Canada just to bust a move. They also owned horses and would race them at Emerald Downs. They did this for many years. Throughout their life and relationship, they would also buy and raise dogs, chickens, and even pigs. They went fishing for salmon. at such places like West Point, Chinook and the Columbia river sometimes bringing home so much salmon they literally had to give it away for free. In 2002 tragedy struck as the Lord called Harry her beloved husband home, a man who she had worshiped and adored all of their years together. Yet, Lupe persevered living alone for many years taking care of her house, lawn plants and everything else. Her golden years all the way up to her last days were spent in her garden a place she knew and was comfortable in. During the first of those golden years, friends Terry and Kathy helped Lupe with paying her bills, setting up automatic deposit and things of such nature. Her final years were spent with loved ones not just her son and grandson, but her daughter-in-law, her granddaughter, her goddaughter, her sister and many many more! With her kind gestures and infectious smile, whether they knew her name or not everybody knew of the woman who would always take her time to come out and wave to you and if not run you down to talk to you and ask you how you were doing. Guadalupe Carez was an absolutely devoted, wife, mother, grandmother and servant to the Lord, all her life. They often say we shall not see a light like theirs again and in this case, the fact rings true at least in our lifetime. And as we gather together, we say see you later to an extraordinary woman.
