1943 – 2024
Al was born in December of 1943, at the family home in Nanty Glo Pennsylvania, and passed away on March 10, 2024 in Boulder Colorado.
He was the youngest of six brothers and sisters. Because of his perspicacious nature in grade school, he was chosen to participate in a televised game show, ‘Quiz Down’, in Johnstown, PA.
Growing up he worked with his brother and father in his father’s construction business building houses. After high school Al went to Tri State College for his BS in Mechanical Engineering, then to Michigan State for his Master’s Degree. While attending Michigan State during the Viet Nam War, he joined the National Guard. He achieved his PHD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
After graduation from the University of Michigan, he moved to Albuquerque, NM for a job at Sandia Laboratories. While in Albuquerque, he met his future wife, Marta.
In 1978, Al moved to Boulder, CO. In 1979, Marta moved to Boulder, and they were married in December of 1980.
Al’s first job in Boulder was at Storage Technology Corporation where he worked on developing disk drives. He worked at various other companies in the Boulder area and retired from Seagate. During that time, he created many patents.
Al was an extremely creative person, possessed numerous talents and had many interests. He was skillful at everything that interested him. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, household construction, landscaping, reading, running, walking, skiing (both cross country and downhill), fishing, hunting, biking, music, concerts, hiking and just relaxing at home.
Al suffered from Type 1 Diabetes for over 45 years and in the final part of his life from Dementia.
He is survived by his wife, Marta and his dog Daisy, a brother and two sisters, fifteen nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
There will be a casual Memorial / Celebration of Life at his home on May 4, at 2 PM.
