On Monday, October 29, 2018, Arthur Frederick Wartburg, age 93, passed away at Longmont United Hospital to join his beloved Edie. Artie, was born September 27, 1925, in Leyden, Colorado to Daisy (Pearce) and Arthur Wartburg in the house attached to his grandparents grocery store. He lived in Denver, graduating from North High School in May 1943. In March 1944 he and a friend enlisted in the Navy. Upon graduating top of his class from North Dakota School of Science in Wahpeton he was shipped to Saipan as an Electricians Mate 3rd class. In May 1946 he was honorably discharged and became a reserve soldier at which time he attended DU where he received a bachelors in chemistry and education. Upon graduation in 1950 he was drafted into the Korean War until being honorably discharged in March 1952. He then became a teacher of chemistry, physics and math at Fort Lupton High School. The summer of 1954 he took a European tour on which he met his soul mate. He and Edith Miller were married June 30, 1955 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He taught in Cincinnati for several years and also worked for Taft Research Center before moving to Boulder to work for NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research). They rented a home in Martin Acres while they built their beloved home of 50+ years in North West Boulder that they shared with Edie’s mother Mamie. Artie traveled worldwide for the next 25 years conducting research for NCAR. After retiring Artie and Edie enjoyed traveling, taking care of their beloved home, and spending time visiting with family and friends. His caring ways, amazing memory and sense of adventure will be missed greatly by many. Family members that are left to cherish his memory are brother, David and his wife Diana of Longmont, niece, Christine (Wartburg) Fetzer and her husband Dan, great-niece, Brittany and great-nephew Kendrick, all of Haxtun, Colorado as well as many other special extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Edie Wartburg and parents Daisy and Arthur Wartburg. Interment of ashes will be in Illinois at a later date by family.
