Barbara Elizabeth Siebold

Barbara Siebold, a longtime resident of Nederland, passed away on April 26. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Roland Siebold, in January. Barbara is survived by their two children, daughter Amber and son Dirk. Also by two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Barbara was born in Brooklyn, New York, but was raised in Newport, Rhode Island, and attended school there. After graduating high school in Newport, Barbara received a full ride scholarship to Trinidad State college in Trinidad, Colorado, to study archeology. While in college, Barbara took part in several archeology digs of the frontier forts around Colorado. Also while in college, Barbara met her future husband, Roland. They were married in Newport, Rhode Island, after Roland returned from Vietnam.

The couple moved to Colorado after the union. In 1972 they moved to Nederland, Colorado, and purchased the house that Barbara lived in until her passing. In her spare time, Barbara would rock-hound around the Front Range and participated in historic reenactment of the fur trade and rendezvous. Later on in life she loved to paint, bake and knit. Barbara would knit sweaters for the family as well as hats and mittens for the community.

Barbara worked various jobs in retail throughout her lifetime. In 1984 she started to deliver the U.S. mail in and around the Nederland community and did so for 17 years. This required driving on mountain roads in all weather conditions, 60 miles a day, 6 days a week. After leaving the mail route, Barbara worked at the Boulder Army surplus store until she retired. During her years of retirement, Barbara enjoyed baking cookies for the Police and Fire departments, and for Nederland senior lunch.

Barbara will be cremated, per her wishes and her ashes will be spread around the places that she loved. No service will be held at this time. Please, no flowers but donations to the Nederland Area Seniors are welcome. There will be a memorial/celebration of life at a later date, for her and her husband
