Bernard Joseph Funk II of Louisville, Colorado passed away on September 20th, 2022 after a long, hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. All those close to Barney were not surprised to learn that he was still fighting up until the very end. Barney loved life and he adored his family. He was also a talker and a storyteller. Barney enjoyed nothing more than talking to people, and he would tell his stories to everyone from strangers to close friends.
Barney was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 17, 1949 to Bernard and Lillian Funk. The family eventually moved to Baldwin, New York and Barney attended Baldwin Senior High School. He grew up in a house full of love and adventure with his parents and four siblings: Maryann Pinero, Steven Funk, Daniel Funk and Paul Funk.
Barney went to college at Jacksonville University and then transferred to Adelphi University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business management. Barney worked for over 40 years in the Equipment Leasing industry, with his last role being SVP Asset Management at Key Equipment Finance. Barney was very passionate about his work, his co-workers and, most importantly, his employees. He was very skilled at his role, and he always took the time to share his knowledge and provide advice to others.
Barney spent many years captaining his cabin cruiser on the Hudson and Mohawk rivers. He enjoyed taking his family boating, and there were many summer days filled with water skiing and tubing with his children. Barney was a New Yorker through and through; however, he fell in love with Colorado. Some of his favorite activities were horseback riding in the Garden of the Gods, viewing the elk in Rocky Mountain National Park and boating on Horsetooth Reservoir.
Barney is survived by Deborah Brady (wife), Bernard Funk III (son), Christine Funk (daughter), Jessica Funk (daughter), Bernard Funk IV (grandson) as well as his four siblings.
Barney was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was one of a kind and we will all miss him dearly. We will celebrate his life and share our memories at an open house reception on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. The reception will be held at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO 80301. Following the open house reception will be a committal service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave, Boulder, CO 80301.
