Cecile Selma Fox
August 17, 1930 – November 16, 2020
Selma Cecile Fox passed away peacefully on November 16, 2020 at the age of 90.
Selma was born in Newark and raised in Hillside, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Harry and Molly Mittleman and sister to Joseph, Edythe and Sidney Mittleman. A mainstay of their family’s life was the family owned and operated Mittleman’s Bakery, a popular neighborhood destination.
Selma attended the University of Oklahoma to become a physical education teacher. She married Arthur Katz in 1954 and eventually moved to Livingston, New Jersey. Arthur passed away in 1963. She married Jerome Fox in 1965. They raised their family in Livingston, New Jersey and then moved to Aventura, Florida in 1977. Jerome passed away in 2014. Selma remained in Aventura, where she lived until last month when she moved to Colorado to be with family.
In her younger years, Selma was an avid athlete who loved nothing more than to spend the day on the golf course or tennis court. She excelled at both. In more recent years, she channeled her competitive spirit into her frequent card games with her dear friends in Aventura, Florida.
Selma was loved and adored by all her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor, never took herself too seriously and loved to laugh and make others laugh. She always maintained a positive attitude. She had space in her life for so many people and a true generosity of heart. Her true legacy is the mark she made on her family—her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchild and nieces and nephews. Selma and her sister Edythe ingrained in their close extended family the true meaning of family love and loyalty, a lesson they will carry with them always.
Selma is survived by her children Robby Gussman, Harriet Fox, Cindi Fox and Bari Fox, her grandchildren Alex Finkel, Ross Finkel, Casey Finkel, Cara Hunt and Jack Ferris, great-grandson Asher Finkel, her nieces Jewel Weiss, Bonnie Soodik, Karen Mittleman, nephews Shelly Mittleman and Michael Mittleman as well as many grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnieces. She will be greatly missed.

Well this is the second time I am writing about my best friend Selma. I loved that woman very much. She was my go to person whenever I needed to talk. We had our own little gestures that no one knew about especially at the card game and when she would laugh it came all the way up from her stomach to her bouncing boobs. She will be missed terribly and I will miss our drinks together. God bless you my love. 💐🥀🌟

We knew Selma and Jerry for decades. We had wonderful times through them all. On behalf of the entire Rogovin Family (Wendy, Evan, Brett, Eli and Sandy), we send our condolences from Florida. While we cannot be with you all during this time, we are thinking of Selma and hope you remember the shining light that she was in all of our lives. She will be missed greatly, but we also know she is with us in our hearts and memories and will live on in this way. Godspeed Selma.

I was so sad the day she left Miami and knowing that all our card playing and drinking our wine together was over. Your mother was always at the top of my list and it will not be the same here without her. My deepest sympathy and love to you all. You are indeed a beautiful family
