Chris was born on February 10, 1949 and grew up in Battle Creek, MI, the son of Mary and Aaron “Tink “ Shaver, who preceded hi m in death.
He met his cherished wife, Annette, while living in San Francisco. They were married for twenty-one years. He was the proud father of Aaron and Amanda. In 1993, the Shavers moved to Boulder where they built a life filled with wonderful friends who have grown to be considered family.
Chris was the much-loved brother to his sister Allison and her husband Mike Bookmyer and in-laws Jane Haflich, Abby, and Mark Henke, Gayle and Bob Scharf, Doug Haflich and Debbi Engel. He also leaves behind his many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Michigan State University, Chris was a life-long fan of Spartan basketball. His skill with people allowed him to be successful in the wide variety of businesses that he owned throughout the years. After moving to Boulder, Chris purchased the John Ewing Company, which manufactures and sells nutritional supplements around the world. With Chris’s guidance, the John Ewing employees have transformed the company into an industry leader. In 2008, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter awarded Chris and his company the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Exporting.
Adventure often called and Chris was quick to answer. He raced hot air balloons, built his own ultra light and flew it over Alaska, skied the Alps, raced sailboats on Lake Michigan, climbed fourteeners in Colorado, kayaked the waters of Germany, and worked on a kibbutz in Israel. He loved to ski, camp, mountain bike, fish, and play golf with his family and friends.
Chris leaves a legacy of giving and community involvement as an avid Rotarian and volunteer for Attention Homes. Chris was an active participant in the lives of his children, serving as a Boy Scout leader, swim meet race official and cheerleader for their many activities.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at 2:00 at the First Congregational Church, 1128 Pine, Boulder, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chris Shaver Scholarship Fund, c/o Boulder Flatirons Rotary Foundation, P.O.
