

Cynthia Hyde Schultz of Lafayette, Colorado, died peacefully at her home, Tuesday, December 20, 2011 of renal failure at the age of 83. She was born in New York City, New York on February 22, 1928, the daughter of Cynthia and J. J. Hindon Hyde. She had one brother, Jay, who is now deceased.
Cynthia was educated at Spence Chapin School in New York City and moved to Colorado in 1954 where she met and married her husband of 57 years, John H. Schultz. Over 25 years of her working career was spent at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where, during such time she served as Administrative Assistant to four separate chancellors and to one provost.
Cynthia was a member of the Flatirons Athletic Club in Boulder, Colorado and Terravita Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she, along with her husband, spent the winters for the past 15 years. An accomplished fly fisherman, tennis, squash and racquetball player, golfer, swimmer and skier, she loved sports as well as playing an excellent game of bridge.
Cynthia served on many committees associated with the University of Colorado, was a member of The Directors Club, the University of Colorado Boulder Graduate School Advisory Council, the Graduate School Resource Committee and the University of Colorado Ad Hoc Task Force on Graduate Education. Cynthia, together with her husband, has established at the University of Colorado Law School the Schultz Law Scholarship Fund and the Schultz Annual Lecture Series in Energy. At the University of Colorado Medical School, she was instrumental in establishing both the Schultz Annual Lecture in Surgery and the Schultz Endowed Chair in Surgery.
Cynthia Schultz is survived by her husband, John, her daughter, Cynthia Howard of Lafayette, Colorado and grandchildren John, Michael and Alisa.
