Deborah was born in 1935 in Boston, Massachusetts, to Gladys and Howard Veinott. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1957 with a degree in French, followed by a year studying at the University of Poitiers in France.
She married Julian Shuchter and they ultimately moved to Boulder in 1964 and had three children. They later divorced and Deborah took her father’s first name as her new last name in remembrance of his too-early death.
She worked for the Colorado Department of Labor as a paralegal until her retirement. Deborah was a founding member and longtime artist with the Boulder Potters’ Guild and served as the treasurer and an active member of what is now the Boulder Dance Coalition. She was a volunteer mediator in the Denver District Courts and a founding member of the Boulder County Restorative Justice project. She also enjoyed long-lasting investment and book clubs with friends.
Deborah loved to travel and explored at least four continents during her life.
Deborah is survived, and will be missed, by her children Dave Shuchter of Longmont, Colorado, and Kate Burke and Ned Shuchter of Durango, Colorado, along with her grandchild Leora Marquess of Broomfield, Colorado.
