

Loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Donald "Don" Newman passed away peacefully on the morning of April 11. Donald was born on March 27, 1922, in Ft. Collins, Colorado, to Louise (Manke) Newman and Hugo Newman. Donald grew up near Erie, graduating from Erie High School in 1940. He was valedictorian of his class. He enlisted in the army, serving from January 30, 1945, to December 5, 1946. Donald served with Headquarters Company 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry, Nakatsu, Kyushu, Japan. He loved Japan, always speaking very warmly of the people he met there.
Donald married Jeanne Ferguson on February 14, 1947. He farmed in Boulder County until 1966. He worked for Colorado Brick and Tile for 20 years and was the kiln foreman, retiring in 1986. Donald was Cubmaster of Cub Pack 176 for six and one-half years during the 1960s. He and Jeanne kept active in retirement, volunteering for a variety of civic activities. He was a member of the South Broadway Church of the Nazarene, and the VFW 1771 in Lafayette, Colorado.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne, sister Nellie, and brothers Henry, Clarence, and Ralph. He is survived by his brother Glenn "Pat" (Ellen) Newman, daughter Laurel Newman, son Kevin Newman, granddaughters Michelle (Steve) Thoma, Army Specialist Tracey Stefanski, and grandson Dylan Stefanski.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 16, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO 80301.
