Dorothy Jean Byland, 80, of Boulder, Colorado passed away after a short illness on December 5, 2012, at Frasier Meadows Retirement Community in Boulder. Born December 31, 1931 in Madera, Pennsylvania, she is predeceased by her parents, William and Laura Hensal, her brother William Hensal, and sisters Damaras Franchock and Marilyn McGuire, and her late husband of 54 years, Thomas Byland of Florham Park, New Jersey. Jean, a beloved elementary school teacher for 30+ years, graduated from Lock Haven University and later earned a Master's Degree from Montclair State University. She enjoyed her students, her children and grandchildren, and spent much time sharing with her friends and neighbors, volunteering in the community and the Methodist church, and traveling with her husband and her sister Marilyn. While she was new to Frasier Meadows Retirement Community and Boulder, she quickly became a creative, adventurous, and outgoing member of the community. Survivors include her two daughters, Laurie Byland of Stillwater, New Jersey, and Rachel Byland (Greg) of Boulder, Colorado; and grandsons Benjamin and Nicholas Intili of West Caldwell and West Orange, New Jersey. Memorial services will be held at Phillips Chapel at Frasier Meadows Retirement Community, in Boulder on December 15, 2012 at 10:00am. A "Celebration of Life" for Jean will be held in New Jersey in the new year. Please share thoughts, memories, and condolences with the family at www.cristmortuary.com.
