

Fern Lorraine Hoyt of Boulder, Colorado passed away peacefully on July 21, 2011 at Frasier Meadows Health Care Center. She was 90 years young. Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1921, she experienced the Great Depression and the second World War while living in Fort Dodge and Glidden. After graduating from business school, she pursued a career in accounting. In 1943 she married Clarence S. Hoyt, and, after the war, started a family. In 1958 they moved the family to Bode, Iowa, where they opened and operated a retail hardware business.
In 1972 Fern and Clarence relocated to Longmont to enjoy the mountains and streams of Colorado. They were frequent visitors to St. Vrain Creek for picnics and fishing.
Fern was a member of the First Methodist Churches in Fort Dodge, Iowa and Livermore, Iowa. She was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. In Longmont she was a member of Longs Peak United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine of Denver, and by her son, David, daughter-in-law Barbara, and grandchildren Josie, Tim and Becky Hoyt of Boulder. She was preceded in death by her father, John Foreman, her mother, Emma Shepardson, her brother, Gerald, and her sister Vernice.
Two memorial services are planned. On Sunday, July 31 at 2:00 p.m. a memorial service will be held at Frasier Meadows Health Care Center, 4950 Thunderbird Drive, at G House, where she lived. Strawberry shortcake will be served.
On Sunday, August 7 at 2:00 p.m. a memorial service will be held at Longs Peak United Methodist Church, 1421 Elmhurst Drive. Light refreshments will follow.
Inurnment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, Boulder.
