Genevieve W. Janczy “Gene”, was born on 4/22/29 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a beloved wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma and a good friend to many. She is preceded in death by her mother, Caroline Koenig; father, Albert Koenig; husband, John R. Janczy; sister, Helen Bujnowski; daughter, Karen Mueller, and granddaughter, Kimberly Janczy. She married John Roger Janczy on October 23, 1948 in Chicago; they were married for over 50 years until John passed in 2000. They started in Chicago, in a small flat on 18th Street where they started their family. Gene had two children, John and Karen. She was a wonderful mother, patient and strong. She gave her children direction and values that stayed with them as they grew. They moved to Broadview, IL (a suburb of Chicago), where she made their little cottage their home. She was a fine decorator and talented arts/craft person who was able to put her talents in making their home beautiful! Life then took them to Omaha for John’s job, where the children attended school and Gene was very involved with their schooling and with the local parish. Bowling and bridge were a big part of her life. She was known to have experimented on the family with different recipes for the Bridge Club! Not all were a success by those that had to sample them! After a number of years, John’s job brought them to Boulder. A new division at Western Electric had brought a number of people from around the US to Boulder. These folks became life-long friends and family. The group became enamored with the CU Buff football team, and supported them by attending games and hosting fabulous pre-game tailgates and after game parties! It was in Boulder where she saw her son and daughter attend and graduate college, get married and see her family grow with grandchildren! Gene was very involved with Sacred Heart of Mary Parish, as an usher and assisting where ever she could. She was also very active in the Western Electric Pioneers – a volunteer program for employees and spouses that helped in the community. Gene loved her grandchildren so much! She doted on them from the moment they were born and as they grew. There was no finer grandmother. She showered them with love and as they grew into adults, she would accompany them on trips – cruises, Las Vegas, San Francisco were a few of the places that they visited. Gene loved to travel. Her favorite place to visit was Hawaii. Many trips were made there and if she could have, she probably would have moved there! There were trips with friends to Arizona and Spain. While in Spain, they ventured into North Africa and she rode a camel! She was always ready to take off and explore. Even after John’s passing, she travelled to Maine, Germany, Vegas, Branson, MO, an many other places. John and Gene loved Colorado! They had visited Estes Park on their honeymoon. They eventually bought a tract of land in Grand Lake and built a cabin, where they could spend summers and have the entire family together to enjoy. She built rock pathways around the cabin and a rock wall – she would scour the area for small rocks to place in both areas. Family and friends were often found up there enjoying the beauty from the deck. She found joy and peace sitting on the deck looking out over the lake. Gene left this world peacefully on Friday, April 30 with her son by her side. She was able to visit with her grandchildren via a video app on the prior Monday, which brought her joy. Gene is survived by her son, John Janczy (wife Marilyn), grandson John Janczy (wife Cait), great - granddaughter Amelia, granddaughter Krysta Grady (husband Tom), great – grandson, Thomas; daughter Karen Mueller (deceased), son-in-law Michael, granddaughter Stephanie Amend (husband Joe), great - granddaughter, Colette, granddaughter Lindsy Mueller, granddaughter Shauna Awe (husband Jon), great – granddaughter, Adalynn, and great – grandson, James. Gene made a positive impact on her family, her friends, & in her later years, her caregivers. In her quiet way she shared her life with others, made those around her laugh and feel special. She never asked for anything except to be allowed to share in your life. She leaves a void in our daily life that will not be filled. In lieu of flowers, we ask that a contribution be made to Mother Cabrini Shrine. You may mail a check to: Mother Cabrini Shrine, 20189 Cabrini Blvd., Golden, CO 80401, or visit online: www.mothercabrinishrine.org
