It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of friend, father, husband, brother and artist George Good. He is survived by his wife and life partner of 33 years, Jamie; his pride-and-joy-son and best friend, Bridger; four amazing sisters, a loving extended family, and many, many friends.
George called Boulder home for most of his life and decided to pursue art after he lost his art-loving father 26 years ago. His artwork touched many, from the years participating in Open Studios’ to teaching grade schoolers how to see the world with new eyes. He was an immaculate artist always seeking out the bliss in scenes others might overlook: a meadow of flowers in France, a sunny swimming pool of friends in Boston, a snowy glade somewhere in the Colorado mountains. He lived his life just as he rendered his work: vibrant, whimsical, joyous, and always colorful. He followed the uncompromising lines and threads wherever they took him.
George was always on the move and traveled the world over the years. He always sought out the richest experiences and entwined them with food, wine and fun. Sometimes he was soaring in the sky under a parasailing wing. Other times, he was riding bikes up volcanic mountains. He could be seen jogging along streams, across streets and away, away into the blue. Or simply sipping rosé in the comfort of his home, tending the flames of his multiple pizza ovens. Only the finest ingredients would do for George. He taught all of us that. What is life if we don't take some small measure in seeking its best qualities? What is life if we're not partaking of its vitality? The tragedy for us is that we did not have more time, more dinners, more journeys, more opportunities to savor the wine of his presence. Fortune has her own ideas on timing.
He left this world just as he would have liked to, riding his bike on a sunny Colorado day. He was always in motion. Never allowing a thing to go by without giving it some attention. Life's moments were too precious to him. He barely let any moment slip by unnoticed. Unchallenged. His last text message only hours before his untimely, sudden death was, "Gotta appreciate every day ‘cause ya never know…..love you guys!’. Amen, brother.
Rest in peace George. Yours was a life well lived. Your memory will always remind us to squeeze life fully for all its joys and the loves we have. Spare nothing for a rainy day. Practice random acts of kindness. What a gift you were. We will all treasure your art and memory forever. You are dearly missed. Never forgotten. They say that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. So we look forward to the day when our vital sparks return to the same cosmos and our next journey begins. Your spark will forever warm our hearts, and we look forward to the celebration of your life we will have this summer.
Ps. You even made us better cooks. #lifewelllived
