
Gladys was born in Alma, NE on March 16, 1918 to Lida Mae Horn and George K. Frear, the youngest of seven children. Gladys graduated from Alma High School with a teaching certificate. She taught elementary grades and worked as a telephone operator. She attended Business School in McCook, NE.
Gladys married Clarence E. Nelson in Upland, NE on October 14, 1939. They became the proud parents of two daughters, Darlene and Marilyn. Her husband and she owned and operated a wholesale and retail egg and poultry business known as “Worth-Mor Foods” in Nebraska and the Denver area.
She was a 50-year member of The Order of Eastern Star, a Masonic organization, Lakewood Chapter 139.
After the death of her husband, Clarence, in March 1973, Gladys was employed at Storage Tech in Louisville. After retiring, Gladys moved to Golden West. She was an active volunteer for 20 years in many capacities including the reception desk, teaching and training residents in the use of computers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, Clarence, and grandson, David Clemenson, III. She is survived by daughters Darlene K. Nelson of Greeley, CO and Marilyn J. Richardson of Arvada, CO, granddaughter, Diane L. Filipe of Greeley and grandson, Robert Mark Richardson VI of Atlanta.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Golden West Penthouse, 1055 Adams Circle
Boulder, CO 80303, on September 8, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. An ice cream social will follow the service.
