Hazel Jean Hockett-Vanderkooy, 96 the youngest daughter of Lillian Ann and Karl Weiler passed away peacefully at the Frasier Meadows Retirement Community. Hazel was dearly loved by hundreds; her warm and loving smile penetrated the hearts of countless. The music in heaven became sweeter and more joyful when the Lord called Hazel home early Monday morning. Hazel loved people and loved life, her mission in life seemed to be to smile and make others happy. “Love is patient, love is kind…” from I Corinthians 13 certainly captures the love within Hazel’s heart. She truly gave of herself and was a happy loving person.
Hazel was born in Melrose, MA and came to live in Boulder in 1954. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Gerritt Vanderkooy; daughter Beverly Crowley-Frick and her husband Don Brown, Conroe, TX; Kenneth J. Crowley, and his wife Marie Carmen Crowley, Lafayette, CO; David S. Crowley and his wife Jeannine Crowley, Tujunga, CA, and Diane Crowley-Martin and her husband Randall Martin, Golden, CO; her grandchildren, Cheryl Starbuck-Wilson, Christine Starbuck-Hinton, Cathleen Starbuck-Ledbetter, Wesley C. Starbuck, Brenda Crowley-Putt, Kenneth R. Crowley, Rebecca M. Crowley, Josie R. Crowley, Ryan J. Crowley, Jennifer T. Creighton, and Christopher P. Creighton. Hazel was also blessed with 17 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren.
A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at the Frasier Meadows Retirement Community on Friday, December 30th at 11:00am in the Phillips Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1820 15th Street, Boulder, CO 80302.
