Jamie Hegelbach, who passed away on March 9, 2023 due to a brief illness, lived a full life with love of family and children at its core. No friend, family member, or a single one of her beloved students at Boulder Country Day School, Horizons K-8 School, or Boulder Community School for Integrated Studies went without an endearing nickname from Jamie which captured their very essence. She lived life with fierce authenticity, wholeheartedness, and touched all those whom she encountered with kindness, a hearty laugh, and a genuine embrace.
Jamie was born in Redondo Beach, California on March 20, 1962 and grew up in the South Bay of Los Angeles. In many ways, she was a true California girl until her profound love of nature led her to the mountains of Boulder, Colorado. Here, she raised her daughter, Brownyn, and met her husband, Peter and his daughters Margot and Jackie.
In Jamie’s presence, you felt heard, understood, and truly loved. If she had a focus or intention, it was best to get out of her way and either follow behind, or walk by her side. She knew where she wanted to be.
Jamie is survived by her daughter, Bronwyn Krah; husband, Peter Hegelbach; step-daughters, Margot Jessen-Hegelbach and Jackie Jessen-Hegelbach; brother, Robert Jimenez; father, Paul Herrera, and her many “soul-sistas.”
A celebration of life will be held at Chautauqua Park Lawn on April 9, 2023 at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to dedicate a memorial bench (link below) in Chautauqua Park that will be named in her memory; and or to Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (link below), where Jamie and Peter took countless creatures to be saved.
