John Deacon Bauer of Boulder passed away November 06, 2015 in Boulder, Colorado. He was 72. He was born May 30, 1943 in Berkeley, California to John Daniel Bauer and Katherine Wetmore Deacon. John received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Berkeley. While in college, John was a programmer maintaining the BCTRY system of cluster and factor analysis. This led him to Colorado to participate in the planning, installation, and development of the CLIPR (Computer Laboratory for Instruction in Psychological Research) system at CU Boulder. For the next 30-plus years, John was a Senior Systems Specialist for Xerox, Honeywell, Bull, and Wang. He continued working to maintain the TRYSYS system until his death. John was a member of the ACM (Assn. For Computing Machinery), Club Elite, IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers), Hawaiian Mission Children’s Society, and LoCo (Lotus Colorado). John was extremely curious and always learning. He had a special interest in, and appreciation for, Lotus cars, and still owned his first car, a Lotus Elite. He enjoyed trains, and recently had taken machining classes to be able to make a scale model of a Baldwin Uintah Engine. He enjoyed learning the drill mill and metal lathe, and was having a wonderful time at Tinkermill in Longmont. On August 21, 1976, he married LaWanda Morgan in Boulder, Colorado. John is survived by his wife LaWanda, his step-daughter Linda (James) Stull, siblings Julie Hughes and Robert (Marilyn) Bauer, brother-in-law Bill (Vera) Morgan, Sisters-in-law JoAnn (Billy) Daily and Sandra (J.D.) Mooney, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and his dear old dog pal, Toby Joe. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Peter Hughes. John requested no services be held. Because he loved all animals, any contribution to a humane society in John’s name would be wonderful. Crist Mortuary is in charge of Arrangements.
