John Robert Orren Sr.

John Robert Orren, age 79, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away on October 3, 2021, in Boulder, CO. John was born in Chicago, IL on March 7, 1942 to Grace Lillian Church and William Howard Orren.

John graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, class of 1960. He attended Florida Presbyterian College and enlisted in the Navy in 1961. While stationed at NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, John married Margaret Ann Rowe. They had two children, Kimberly Grace Orren and John Robert Orren, Jr.

John was selected to attend Purdue University for the Naval Enlisted Scientific Education Program (NESEP) where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1969. Upon graduation John received his commission in the United Stated Navy as an Ensign, and became a Naval Flight Officer in the Grumman A6e Intruder. John subsequently worked for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and later returned to Grand Falls, Newfoundland, where he owned and operated a Mary Brown’s restaurant franchise.

In 1985 John married Jo Ann Solary Wallace, a former classmate at Andrew Jackson High School, whom he met while attending his 25th high school reunion. They returned to Jacksonville in 1990. John was a founding partner in Team Logistics, LLC and consulted in various IT projects for more than 25 years. John and Jo Ann shared a passion for travel and always looked forward to their next adventure, most recently enjoying a trip out west in their RV, along with their two beloved Maine Coon cats. John held membership in Mensa International and was a lifelong Duplicate Bridge player, attaining Bronze Life Master status.

John is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, daughter, Kimberly Hearn and her husband Leo, of Petty Harbour, Newfoundland; son, John Orren, Jr. of Roselle Park, NJ; three step children, Paula Duckworth and her husband, Jim, of Rochester, NH; Paul Wallace III and his wife, Rui, of Boulder, CO; and, Paulette Petersen and her husband, Brad, of Fleming Island, FL; a brother, Roy Orren, and his wife, Vicki, of Titusville, FL; and, a sister, Louise Rowe, and her husband, Roger, of Orange Park, FL.

He is survived by grandchildren, Lloyd Thurman, Capt. Daniel Thurman, Samantha Thurman, Kaitlynn Orren, John Orren III, Gabe Orren, and Christian Orren. He is also survived by his step grandchildren, Brian Newsky, Amanda Gagne, Ryan Duckworth, Alan Ward, Zachary Ward, Tyler Ward, and Myles Wallace.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Talons of Eagle Harbor, Fleming Island. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cristmortuary.com.
