Kathryn Ann Schmidt (Kathy), is preceded in death by her father, Stan Schmidt and mother, Verda Gruhn. Survived by siblings: Susan Gallegos, Vickie Tokle, Lori Pollock, Ricky Schmidt and by her only son: Kirk Lambert. She was a very proud aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by numerous friends.
Kathy passed on due to COPD. For the last three years, it was very difficult to give up her intense independence and enjoyment of Colorado’s beautiful outdoors. Her backyard was an important space and is very well tended. Charlie, the dog, kept squirrels and raccoons at bay.
After her divorce, Kathy started working in the restaurant industry. It didn’t take long for her to gain a following as a brilliant cook. Fans would follow her from restaurant to restaurant. I think many of her bosses would take credit for being great managers as their businesses would thrive, but we all know is was Mom.
After cooking for many years, Kathy started her own successful business as a housekeeper. Once again, she built up a loyal following and had clients on a two- or three-year waiting list just to obtain cleaning services. Living this modest life allowed her simple comforts of a warm home, good food and caring friends.
Any friend of Kathy’s knew better than to dare her to do something playful, because you would promptly be covered by a in a pie in the face, hit by a fresh snowball or looking for your missing Backgammon pieces. She was selfless when it came to helping those close to her; you could stay at her house until “things settled down” or she would hire you to do yardwork for a little extra cash.
She did not wish to have formal services and her urn will be placed at Mountain View Memorial Park, Boulder Colorado. In lieu of flowers please consider a Donation to her favorite charity St. Jude in Kathy’s name.
