Kenneth Willard Nickel, 88, died on August 15, 2013, at Sunrise at Flatirons in Broomfield, CO.
Born in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, he graduated from Michigan College of Mining and Technology, now Michigan Tech, in 1948 with a degree in chemical engineering. He married Beatrice Vivia Ingraham of Westfield, NJ, in 1950. Bea predeceased him after 57 happy years of marriage.
Ken served in the US Army Air Force during World War II. After college graduation, he was employed by DuPont in Houston until joining IBM in 1957, where he remained until retirement in 1984, having worked in the Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Boulder, and Tucson plants. He then joined the newly formed Picor in Tucson.
Ken loved his family, golf, and exercising his analytical mind to solve puzzles and brain teasers.
Surviving are his daughter Libby McMenamin (Greg) of Louisville, CO, sons Doug Nickel of Broomfield, CO, and David Nickel of Boulder, CO, and granddaughters Maddie McMenamin and Katie Jo McMenamin of Louisville, CO.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ, next to Bea.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Michigan Technological University in his memory will be greatly appreciated (1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, MI 49931).
