Kim was born on June 21, 1960, in Denver, Colorado, and was adopted and deeply loved by Jack Gerald Hight and Lois Mae Richardson (Hight). A devout Presbyterian, Kim attended Grace Commons Church in Boulder, Colorado, from her high school years until her final days. Faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was forever grateful for the peace her relationship with God brought her. Above all, she cherished God, her husband, her three daughters, family and friends, and her dogs.
When she was in her teens, her family moved to Boulder, Colorado, and Kim attended Boulder High School, where she excelled as a fun-loving, outgoing cheerleader and a friend to all. Learning was one of her greatest passions, leading her to earn multiple advanced degrees over her lifetime. She first received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication, followed by a Master’s degree in Communication and then Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Kim then dedicated many years of her life to helping others, working as a Labor and Delivery nurse and briefly in Hospice Care. Her commitment to healthcare inspired her to earn a Master’s degree in Nursing Leadership. In her final decade, she achieved her ultimate academic goal, earning both a Master of Divinity-Chaplaincy and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Ministries from Denver Seminary.
She served faithfully as a hospital chaplain and as a member of her church congregation. Her lifelong passion for uplifting others was beautifully reflected throughout her career.
When Kim wasn’t pursuing her education, she could almost always be found traveling the globe. A lifelong explorer, she visited more than 40 countries, often planning her next adventure before her current trip had even ended. While Colorado was always her home, she was truly a global citizen who embraced diverse peoples and cultures.
Kim was known for her boundless love, compassion, and kindness. She shared a deep connection with a large, close-knit circle of family and friends and cherished every moment spent with others. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Cunningham of Erie, CO; her children, Jennifer Sue Hight of Berthoud, CO, Alexa Sue Hight (Joseph Taylor) of San Marcos, TX, and Jamie Sue Hight-Miller of Longmont, CO; her brother, Kevin Hight (Veronica) of Chandler, AZ; Sam’s son, David Cunningham of Englewood, CO; and her beloved Golden Retrievers, Jordy and Maggie. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Lois and Jack Hight.
A memorial service will take place on June 14th, 2026 at 1 PM at Grace Commons Church in Boulder, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Grace Commons Foundation in her memory.
