

He was born on December 21, 1921, in Berkeley, California to Charles Lawrence Britton and Mildred Kuster Britton. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II in the Pacific and in Europe on B-17 aircraft. He was a medal recipient and honorably discharged in 1946. During the war he married Myrah Lee Yarnell of Grand Junction, Colorado, and they shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage.
Following the war, Larry worked briefly for Southern Pacific Railroad in Oakland, California, and as an expediter for an import-export services firm in Sunnyvale, California. In 1969, he became an executive with the Bechtel Corporation and worked on various engineering projects in San Francisco, California, and Edmonton, Canada. He retired in 1986 working on the Palo Verde nuclear power project in Phoenix, Arizona. Larry enjoyed the outdoors including golfing and fishing and attending baseball and football games. He also enjoyed musical theatre, listening to big-band music, and eating good food. He had a profound love of animals, and there was always a pet in the household. He especially took pleasure in traveling for work and going on vacations with his family.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrah Lee in 1994. He will forever be remembered by his devoted daughters Sandra Novelo and her husband Joseph of El Paso, Texas and Linda McMullen and her husband Patrick of Boulder, Colorado; treasured grandchild Patricia Novelo of El Paso, Texas; twin nephews Reverend Scott Schiesswohl of Boulder, Colorado and Stephen Schiesswohl of Boulder, Colorado; and niece Debra Bailey of Grand Junction, Colorado.
Family and friends will gather at a graveside service at 1:30 pm, Monday, October 10, 2011, at the Masonic section of the Grand Junction Municipal Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff of Wynwood at Ridge Point and Evercare Hospice for their loving and devoted care.
