Leo was born on October 16, 1953 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan to Blanche Carew Glade and Lt. Col. John Kenneth Glade. He was the second youngest of eight children.
The family moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1956 where Leo would go on to attend local schools and graduate from Boulder High School, class of 1972.
After high school, Leo joined the United States Army where he served as a legal clerk and later as an investigative aide to military trial attorneys. He would often share fond memories of his time on base in Stuttgart, Germany. He was honorably discharged in February 1976.
On his way back to Boulder after the Army, Leo took a cross country road trip in which he visited relatives on the East Coast – and brought back stories which he retold for decades.
In 1979, he fell in love with his next-door neighbor, Debbie Cook, and the two would wed two years later. The couple moved to Lafayette in 1982 where they raised their three sons, James Roy, Steven Leo, and Kenneth Andrew. Leo was active in his boys’ school and sports, from serving on the board of Trebol Soccer Club, to coaching his boys’ soccer team, to just being around for an occasional game of catch.
Leo wore a few professional hats over the years. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a journalism degree and worked for The Denver Post Boulder Agency (later Front Range News) as a circulation manager. In 2000, Leo began working at the Developmental Disability Center of Boulder (which later became Imagine!), as a vocational trainer and coach and later as a behavior counselor. In 2011, he studied Applied Behavior Analysis at Florida Institute of Technology and joined Behavior Services of the Rockies as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst in 2012. During that time, he impacted the lives of many people that he supported. He retired in 2019.
Leo enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles and barbecuing. His smile would light up a room and he loved telling stories and joking around.
After originally being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2020, Leo was able to experience five, very well lived years including seeing his two sons get married and taking trips with his family to Italy, Colombia, St. Thomas, and to his family’s annual reunion in Cape May, New Jersey.
Leo was preceded in death by his son Steven Leo Glade; mother Blanche Carew Glade; father John Kenneth Glade; sister Mimi (Glade) O'Rourke; brother James Francis Glade; sister Robin Carew Glade; sister-in-law Chong Nan Lee Glade; and niece Anne (O'Rourke) Ryan.
He is survived by his wife Debbie Cook; sons James (Angie) Glade and Kenneth (Mimi) Glade; brothers Kenneth Jr. (Kim), Moon Ho, and Father Albert Glade; sister Betsy Glade; nephews Ben and Jake Glade, Christopher and Benjamin Cook, Sean Bucher and Tony O’Rourke; nieces Alex Glade, Julia (Cook) Gaskill, Lauren (Bucher) Austin, Ellen (O’Rourke) Foley, Kate O’Rourke and Maria Soyka; as well as his many grand nieces and nephews.
A ceremony of life will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 4:00 PM at West View Recreation Center (10747 W. 108th Ave. Westminster, CO).
