

The daughter of John Mitchell and Lillian Pearl Myers, Margaret was born April 9th, 1919 in Schenectady, NY. She married Ralph Jeffery Slutz on June 1, 1946 in Maplewood, NJ. She had lived in Boulder since 1954.
A graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ, she received her BA and MA in Psychology from Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA. Upon Ralph’s completion of his PhD, they were married and started their lifelong partnership and family.
After raising four children and traveling the world with Ralph, Margaret spent countless hours over a span of more than 20 years, volunteering at Mapleton Elementary School with the children she loved so dearly. In recognition of her efforts she received the “Colorado Governor’s School Volunteer of the Year” award in 1989. She continued her volunteer work until the end of her life by knitting dozens of hats and sweaters for newborns at local hospitals.
Survivors include a brother, Scott Mitchell of Salisbury, NC; a daughter, Karen Huston (Michael) of Clinton, UT; three sons, Rob Slutz (Diane) of Loveland, CO, Eric Slutz (Stephani) of Fort Collins, CO, and Don Slutz (Shirley) of Milford, MA; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Slutz and her brother John Mitchell of Fishkill, NY.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, August 13th at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Place, Boulder, CO. Rev. Beverly Fest will officiate.
