Born Marilyn T. Smallacombe in Scranton, PA, she graduated from the Army Nurse Cadet Corp in 1948. She worked as an RN at Pawating Hospital in Niles, MI after her marriage to Thomas O. Hutchins of Peckville, PA.
She raised her family of three girls and after her divorce, she married Dr. Robert E. Samson DVM and worked with him in his veterinary clinic until his death in 1985. She later returned to Pennsylvania and worked at Willow Street School for the disabled until she retired in 1989 when she moved to Utah.
She is survived by her sister, Elvira Pettigrew of Olean, NY; her brother Ed Smallacombe of South St. Mills, NC; her daughters, Barbara “Bobbi” (Richard) Graham of Boulder, CO and Michele Hutchins (Rich Bennett) of Salt Lake City, UT; a stepdaughter, Pamela Samson of South Bend, IN and her three cats, Tiger Lilly, Jayden and Jake. Her oldest daughter MaryThomas “Tomi” Hutchins of Boulder, CO precedes her in death.
Marilyn had a passion for politics, reading, crosswords and Jeopardy and she loved living in her mountain home among all the wildlife.
There will be no funeral or memorial services. Contributions may be sent to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley in her name.
The family also wants to say thank you to Halcyon Hospice and Home Instead Care Givers.
